About

This app helps you practice meditation by focusing on colorful visual objects, called kasinas, to develop concentration. You can also connect a breathing sensor to make the visuals respond to your breath. It records your sessions and lets you review your practice history, breathing patterns, and reflections over time.

Why I'm building this

KASINA is a meditation app built around the traditional Buddhist practice of gazing at a visual sphere to build concentration, and one of the most slept-on meditation objects in modern times. In Visual mode you choose from color, elemental, Vajrayana, and other original kasinas, with guided meditations to support your practice. Breath mode syncs the orb to your own breathing through a wireless respiration belt (purchased separately), so you can deepen concentration while staying grounded in your body. Reflect lets you track your practice over time. I'm also interested in the collaborative potential with researchers interested in exploring digitally-generated, externally aided meditation objects, including both the visual and breath-based biofeedback, when combined with the respiration belt.

What feedback I'm looking for

I'm curious to see how well the visual kasina works for you as an object. Which visual objects work best for you? Does the breath kasina mode enhance the experience, leading to greater embodiment?

Discussion

Anything you share reaches the builder. A few places to start:

  • What's working? moments, features or feelings worth keeping
  • What's not yet landing? where it feels off, unclear or not quite there
  • What would you want next? features, directions or refinements
