The biggest thing in Spirit Tech this week
Precision Neuroscience raises $250M Series D
Precision Neuroscience announced an oversubscribed $250 million Series D fundraise, bringing total funding to $430 million.
Precision Neuroscience's Layer 7 is a minimally invasive brain-computer interface (BCI) built around an ultra-thin, flexible electrode array that sits on the surface of the brain rather than penetrating brain tissue.
The array is thinner than a human hair and packs 1,024 electrodes in roughly a postage-stamp-sized area, allowing it to record, and potentially stimulate, neural activity at high resolution.
While the near-term use cases are clinical in nature, increasingly sophisticated interfaces for reading and eventually modulating brain activity are part of the underlying technology stack that will power the next wave of state modulation in Spirit Tech.

Designing online spiritual care
Spiritual care in the US is critically under-provided, and Online Spiritual Care Communities are one proposed solution.
A new national survey of 1,010 people asked professional spiritual care providers and the people they serve five questions around anonymity, visibility, timing, institutional affiliation, and moderation.
Both groups converged on the same answers, preferring anonymous posts in public threads, replies written over time rather than live chat, a named institution behind the platform, and moderation by professionals.
Anyone building spiritual care software now has new insights from users and the professionals who would staff it.
DEA proposes putting five additional psychedelic tryptamines into Schedule I
The DEA proposed Schedule I control for 4-OH-DiPT, 5-MeO-AMT, 5-MeO-MiPT, 5-MeO-DET and DiPT. If finalized, researchers handling them would face the federal registration and controls applicable to Schedule I substances like LSD and psilocybin.
While the FDA is actively developing new pathways for therapeutic psychedelics, the DEA is simultaneously proposing tighter controls on several less-studied compounds.
The Science of Advanced Meditation
The 2026 Science of Advanced Meditation Conference took place September 23rd, hosted by the Meditation Research Program in affiliation with Massachusetts General Hospital and Harvard Medical School.
The conference brought together leading researchers and contemplative scholars from around the world to discuss the latest discoveries and emerging future directions within the field of advanced meditation research.
Meditation research is moving past generic mindfulness to measuring and understanding the deeper states and stages of contemplative practice. As we better understand the science of advanced meditation, we can craft advanced meditation tools and resources to benefit more practitioners.
