Research org developing focused ultrasound neuromodulation to end chronic suffering
The Far Out Initiative is a public benefit research organization developing Valence Engineering, a program using focused ultrasound neuromodulation through sonolucent cranial windows to target limbic brain circuits linked to chronic suffering. Founded in 2023 by Joshua Michael Sparks, the pre-clinical stage organization targets circuits including the lateral habenula and dorsal anterior insula, and operates under a public covenant committing to universal access and open, non-proprietary methods. It has received funding including an ACX Grant from Astral Codex Ten.
