Educational Institute merging Buddhist contemplative traditions with modern neuropsychology and social equity
Nalanda Institute for Contemplative Science is a New York-based nonprofit educational foundation integrating contemplative wisdom traditions with modern psychology and neuroscience. Founded in 2007 by Harvard-trained psychiatrist and Columbia Buddhist scholar Dr. Joe Loizzo, it grew from the first mind/body medical center in a major academic department of psychiatry at Columbia Presbyterian Hospital (est. 1998). The institute offers programs including Contemplative Psychotherapy, Compassion-Based Resilience Training (CBRT), teacher training, and daily guided meditation.
