Overview

Contactless lucid-dreaming camera (INSPEC) that detects REM sleep and triggers cues to spark lucid dreams, paired with the Lucid Scribe app

lucidcode builds biofeedback devices and software for lucid dreaming. Its flagship product, INSPEC, is a contactless night-vision smart camera that detects REM eye movements via machine vision and triggers audio or light cues to promote lucidity - no electrodes or wearables. It pairs with the free Lucid Scribe app, which offers a dream journal with voice dictation, automatic dream-sign detection, guided technique exercises, progress tracking, and a 28-day training program. Founded by Michael Paul Coder, who has built lucid-dreaming tools since 2000, lucidcode also maintains open-source tools and the LSDBase research database.

lucidcode ships a release cluster for its INSPEC dream-capture hardware
lucidcode published four release notes on October 4, 2026 for its INSPEC dream-capture hardware. The updates add an interactive hypnogram view for imported INSPEC files, an upgraded REM episode player, and an option to capture frames when no REM has been detected for a configurable interval of 15 to 90 minutes.

lucidcode Opens a Free Three-Night "Targeted Lucidity Reactivation" Sleep Study to All Lucid Scribe Users on iOS and Android
In a company-issued release dated September 14, 2026, lucidcode said it "has opened the TLR study to every Lucid Scribe user on iOS and Android. The free three-night study runs inside the Lucid Scribe app and is conducted with sleep researchers in Germany. At bedtime, participants train to link a sound with a lucid state of mind. The app then replays that sound during early-morning sleep." The release describes the protocol as targeted lucidity reactivation (TLR) over "three nights, not necessarily consecutive," with a first-night questionnaire and sound check; "the study needs no additional hardware. It works with Bluetooth headsets, headbands, or any speaker paired to the phone." The company acknowledges that "a larger preregistered study across three sleep laboratories, posted as a preprint in 2026, found that replaying cues during REM sleep did not raise the rate of lucid dreams beyond pre-sleep training alone. Signal-verified lucid dreams did last about twice as long with cueing. How sounds find their way into dreams is still an open question, and it is part of what the TLR study measures." The Google Play listing for Lucid Scribe, updated September 15, 2026, corroborates the release: "Added a new research study that plays audio cues at increasing volume during early-morning sleep, with cognitive training that links the sound with becoming lucid. Sessions are structured across multiple nights and track your progress automatically." lucidcode, based in The Hague and founded by Michael Paul Coder, describes itself as "an independent developer of lucid dreaming and sleep research tools"; its desktop Lucid Scribe software has been "cited in over 20 publications," and its INSPEC device detects REM sleep using computer vision. The German research partner is not named in the release. Source is a free PR aggregator (openPR); corroborating listing: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.lucidcode.lucidscribe.

lucidcode launches INSPEC, the first contactless lucid dreaming device with machine-vision REM detection
lucidcode announced commercial availability of INSPEC, a contactless lucid dreaming device — a night-vision smart camera that uses machine vision and motion analysis to detect REM eye movements and trigger audio cues to promote lucidity. The launch pairs with the company's Lucid Scribe app and 28-day Foundations of Lucidity curriculum.
