Breath-controlled meditative VR game for anxiety regulation and emotional resilience

DEEP is a meditative VR game in which players navigate a poetic underwater world using slow, diaphragmatic breathing enabling users to soothe anxiety, build confidence in self regulation, and support emotional resilience in a playful way. Co-founded by Niki Smit, the experience has won many awards and is built with researchers at Radboud University, who have published multiple studies and a doctoral dissertation on DEEP's effectiveness as an anxiety-regulation tool since 2016. The team is now extending the research to trauma, anger, forensic psychiatric care, youth detention and physical rehabilitation settings.
